Mathilda's Market Hobart: Little Snoring Stand

Here are some pictures from my stall at Hobart's first Mathilda's Market. It was a lovely venue and loads of lovely folks, and quite a number of pregnant bellies and smiley children.

I didn't really get a chance to have a proper look at everyone stalls, but the colour and light in the place was enchanting. The lovely Anne from Mathilda's took lots of pictures so I will be checking in at their blog for the round up!

Little Snoring celebrates the launch of Mathilda's Market in Hobart

Mathilda's Market is on in Hobart this Saturday. I have to say I have been a bit excited about this market for quite a while. They have been running on the mainland for the last year and have developed quite a big following. They hand pick the stall holders to ensure the products for sale and high quality, handmade or from small production runs.

The venue for the Hobart event is the Hobart Function Centre on Elizabeth St Pier which has a great room at the end looking out over the water. They will be having a cafe at this end, so it will be perfect for a little Saturday morning catch up with friends or coffee with the kids.

I will be sandwiched between the gorgeous mirrors of Allypops and the explosion of tulle that I expect will arrive with Princess Ratbag. I hoping it will be a lot of fun and with stall holders flying in to be there, I expect my purse might get a little workout as well.

It is only on from 9am - 1pm so I expect it might be worth getting in early to get the best picks. Please say hello if you pass the Little Snoring stall.

Boys love Gumballs too!

Somedays it would be handy to have a little girl around to photograph wearing some of my necklaces. As it happens I only have boys, 3 of them actually, and while I have been pondering designing something cool (and appropriate) for them to wear - it hasn't happened yet. The closest I have got is these colourful gumball necklaces, in fact it is sometimes hard to get them to hand them back, and well when they look this cute...

Anyhoo this is my latest ode to my ancestral past... I love the Union Jack, it is such a strong graphical image and is a combo of the flag of St George (England) and the Flag of St Andrew (Scotland). I love it as a pillow so much I have made my own... available online at the Little Snoring Shop!

The Market

Anyhoo, it was a lovely day (albeit a bit humid) and I got to meet lots of lovely peeps and try out some new products. The Peggy People Kits were a lot of fun and have gone off to many new homes.

I also introduced some Union Jack Cushions that I have been printing over the last couple of weeks which has been a lot of fun. Shop upload due soon, hopefully today.

It is always lovely to catch up with some market friends and make some new ones, hello to Marita, Rosie, Cathy, Rebecca, Holly, Michelle and Jo, and Tara.

Little Snoring: Peg Doll Ladies from the village of Big Hair

Peg Dolls became popular toy in Victorian times, and I think their charm is still visible. They are also a lot of fun to dress up and play with and an easy craft for kids.

These lovely ladies look like they have just stepped out of the hairdressers! I only wish my hair would look so full and fabulous!

Anyhoo this ladies will be coming with me tomorrow to The Market. I have made up some Peggy Peeps People Kits (fun for the whole family?) ... will be trying them out at the next few markets.

Please note: The making of Peg Dolls is addictive... I have growing collection now... a few more than is really necessary for a woman of my age.

Funny thing is that I have been so busy lately that I hadn't had a chance to sit down and read it, so it was a double thrill that they were spotted by Little Jenny Wren, who let me know. Thanks.

Tasmanian Designer cushion in Sibella Court's home featured on Design Sponge!

Ok, so the blog title kinda tells the story, but I wanted to poke you in the direction of this great feature on Design Sponge. It is on the extremely well styled, well loved home and shop of uber-stylish stylist Sibella Court.

Also loved by Sibella is this lovely cushion (in picture) made by Tasmanian Designer Tara Badcock! Yeah!

Little Snoring will be at the 1st Mathilda's Market in Hobart in March 2010

In case you haven't heard, Mathilda's Market is coming to Hobart.

Mathilda's Markets have been celebrating beautiful handcrafted and limited edition baby and kids items all over the mainland, so it is going to be fun to be part of the first Market in Hobart. The quality and originality of Tasmanian handmade will be shining out from the Elizabeth St Pier on March 27th, 9 - 1, so be sure to save the date.

Mathilda's Market has already been extolling the uniqueness of Tasmanian craft on their blog. I was pretty happy to be featured alongside the very creative and lovely Rosie from Notions and the super clever letterpress queen, Narelle from Ruby Victoria.

PS. If you have been wondering where I have been... I am a Twitter-addict! If you are easily distracted then I wouldn't recommend, but if you are able to balance even a little work/life/twit then it is a lot of fun!

It's Showtime! The Little Snoring clan joins the Circus

When the Circus comes to town, erects its tent on the Cenotaph (which we drive past most days) then it is only a matter of time before we give in to the nags from the back seat. I was not that enthusiastic about the whole thing, which only served to make it more of a thrilling surprise. It was a bit baudy, a bit loud and completely lovely. Those guys know their stuff and know how to put on a show, and wow, how can you not be completely captivated by folks flying through the air in every direction.

Little Snoring will be at Handmade Hobart Market this weekend

This weekend is market time! Handmade Hobart will be on for the second time and I am excited to be having a stall. The first market was great, lots of lovely goodies, lovely people, great venue and nice vibe - it was good fun.

It is on Saturday and Sunday from 10 - 3 at St Peters Hall, Harrington St. Love you to say hello if you drop by.

Little Snoring: Happy 2010 with some fun Summer fashion for kids

I have been thinking a lot about all the things I could do with this blog o' mine, lots of ideas, lots of inspiration. I dream of posting every day, of having categories and daily themes. All seems like a good idea, its just the washing keeps piling up, the basil and coriander seeds remain unplanted and the kids are still watching tv. So I switch off the computer and get on with the day... maybe my NY resolution of getting more organised might rub off on this little patch of pixels in 2010. Stay tuned, but don't hold your breath!

Merry Christmas from mine to yours

Next time I post I imagine I will be quite a few (kilo)grams heavier because the next few days are all about feasting. This afternoon we are off to friends for a Christmas Eve feast of duck (cooked french-style), then tomorrow my mum does a mean turkey accompanied by anything and everything doused in brandy. Then boxing day is all about seafood with salmon, abalone, crayfish and mussels (caught locally off Bruny Island yesterday) all on the menu all washed down with lashings of champagne. My goodness I feel slightly ill already...

Still a lovely sight is the Merry Berry Fruit Box supplied by Hillbarn this year... if only I lived near Launceston!

Anyway, hope you have a lovely holiday surrounded by things you love. I have had such a wonderful year this year and hoping next year will bring lots of joy, love and storage!

Summer Reading List - Food

I am having a couple of weeks off work over Christmas which I am soooooooooooo looking forward to. I know it will go by in a flash, so I am already thinking about some of the things I want to get done that are also relaxing and fun.

One job I have been meaning to do for ages that I think will make my life a whole lot easier is sorting out a recipe file. A go-to list of healthy and homely meals that will solve the what's for dinner tonight age old dilemma. I have collected a few cookbooks to go through that will hopefully sort me out!

1. We have been very inspired by the River Cottage series and feel like Hugh is a good friend. I bought the The River Cottage Family Cookbook a few weeks ago to put under the tree for moi, so can't wait to unwrap it and dive in. I am also hoping to use this as a guide for the garden as well.

2. A Cook's Guide to Grains: Delicious Recipes, Culinary Advice and Nutritional Facts was a birthday present that got put aside but has some really interesting thoughts on the history of grains as well as some intriguing grain based recipes, including homemade cheese crackers and Herring in Oatmeal.

3. "Marie Claire" Seasonal Kitchen: Inspired Recipes and Food Ideas. I have had this book a while and looking forward to giving it the time it deserves. It is divided by seasons and uses seasonal fruits and vegetables. It also has some great sections including my favourite called Deli Desserts, which is about quick-fix dessert ideas from the Deli or Supermarket shelves. For example, cut Turkish Delight into tiny cubes and layer in tall glasses with strawberry coulis and vanilla ice cream, or smash toffee brittle into small pieces and sprinkle over rich chocolate ice cream. Genius advice for the uninspired!

4. Babycakes: Vegan, (Mostly) Gluten-Free, and (Mostly) Sugar-Free Recipes from New York's Most Talked-about Bakery. Michelle over at Hugo and Elsa put me on to this one. I haven't received my copy yet, but given that we have a lot of food intolerances it sounds like childhood will not be denied cupcakes. And frankly we could all feel better about eating delicious cakes sans wheat, sugar and dairy.

5. Also waiting to be read is Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain, I know there was quite a lot of buzz when this was released - which was ages ago, but intriguingly A A Gill describes it as 'Elizabeth David written by Quentin Tarantino'.

Most of these books are not new releases, but I am hoping to stockpile a list of classic and inspiring recipes for family meals in 2010. Wish me luck!
